A day of quilting is sometimes needed, just because, and today was one of those days. I decided to take a stab at sewing curves and this Rising Sun quilt block tempter seemed to be just the right size to attempt. I used Moda’s Looking Forward Layer Cake by Jen Kingwell Designs and there was plenty of variety in the pack to choose from. The fabrics remind me of the Australian Outback. Auditioning the fabrics was fun, they are all so colourful.
Instructions and template were included in the Pattern, also by Jen Kingwell, and they were easy to follow and the templates are a great way of cutting curves.
Once I decided on my fabric choice, the construction was fast and easy. I found it best to sew the curves starting in the middle, so I sewed from the middle to the edge and then went back to the middle and sewed to the other edge. It worked well and was quite simple and effective.
The only thing to be careful of is making sure you keep the pieces in the right place. I took one section at a time to the sewing machine to make sure I didn’t get them mixed up.
Putting it all together was a breeze and I like the finished piece. Now I feel confident sewing curves I may attempt a bigger project. To make a quilt, you would just make several of these blocks and join them together. The pattern of the blocks together would be quite striking.
And remember, when life throws you curves, quilt them.
Happy sewing from the Two Flying Geese.
