What's new in the Quilting World at the International Quilt Market in Portland

Two Flying Geese Drop into the International Quilt Festival in Portland Oregon

We didn’t actually fly to the festival but we did drive down to beautiful Portland Oregon to check out the many presenters at the show this year.

We checked out the new fabrics from Moda, Free Spirit, Cotton & Steel and, of course, we ordered a broad range of exciting new designs from our suppliers.  We are also very happy to announce that we have a few new lines we will be bringing in during the year.

An interesting trend we noticed at this year’s quilt festival was a move towards using the beautifully designed fabrics, not only for quilts, but also for clothing.  Many of the designers were wearing their fabrics and they looked very fashion forward and fabulous.  We can’t wait to begin sewing our new wardrobes with our favorite fabrics.  Of course this would work great for kids clothing too and our new line of canvas which we are in the process of ordering will be hardwearing for those rough and tumble kids as they play while you sew!   We are in the process of researching some great patterns to begin making our wearables so please let us know if you would be interested in moving in this direction  and we will be delighted to bring in a selection of easy to make and easy to wear fashion patterns for you and your kids.

We are very excited about the new line of canvas which, in addition to clothing will have many practical uses.  It is perfect  for many uses in the home, from cushions to place mats and many other uses and its also great for making bags and we have some great Noodlehead bag patterns created by Anna Graham.  Many of her bags were featured in her booth, and of course she was also wearing her fabric!!

Oh we have so many ideas from the International Quilt Festival, its going to take us a while to process it all but do stay tuned we have many more exciting projects to share with you all.  If you have a special project or idea we’d love to hear from you and help with pattern or fabric selection.

Happy sewing from the Two Flying Geese.

We have ordered the fabric used to make the toddler dress and also some that would work for boy clothes. These linen blend fabrics should be in store in August. We can’t wait to try it out!

I love the fabric used to make the toddler pinafore. Both poplin and canvas fabrics would be ideal to cover the 2 primary seasons. would like to see some fun canvas prints for little boys as well.
Thank you!
